English-born Ghanaian youngster Daniel Nkrumah scored in Middlesbrough U-21's 2-0 against Ipswich Town in the Premier League Cup.

The home team had a strong start and might have been a goal up within the first 60 seconds.

Gilbert, Simpson, and Aidan Bridge combined for some slick one-touch passing, which supplied the onrushing Collins for a 1v1, forcing Woody Williamson into a solid early save before the linesman's flag was raised.

Boro's fast thinking and creative movement caused all sorts of difficulties for the Tractor Boys, with Frankie Whelan flashing a header over the crossbar after meeting Bridge's terrific free-kick.

Boro, on the other hand, would get the goal that their confident performance merited, with Nathan Simpson robbing his opponent and laying it off for Calum Kavanagh to finish into the corner.

Clarke rose highest from the dead ball to head towards goal, and Daniel Nkrumah, fresh off the bench, finished with a touch from only yards away.

Boro will travel to East London to play West Ham U-21 in their next game.
