Don’t reject subsequent Black Stars call-ups after World Cup – Legendary Asamoah Gyan tells new players

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has called on Europe-born Ghana players who have switched allegiance to play for the Black Stars not to reject subsequent invitations after the 2022 World Cup.

In June, six players, five of whom were foreign-born, made the decision through the Ghana Football Association to play the Black Stars.

These players were Inaki Williams, Patric Pfeiffer, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, Stephan Ambrosius, Tariq Lamptey and Mohammed Salisu.

Following the announcement of the players, there were mixed reactions from Ghanaians as many have the assertion players turn to make themselves available for selection just because of the World Cup.

However, Gyan, who is the all-time top scorer for Ghana has called on the players to avail themselves when the need arises after the World Cup.

“My advice to those guys is, we are here to support them but my question is what next? “They should not come and play because of the world cup and afterward, they decide to decline subsequent invitations. Once you have naturalized for Ghana, you should be fully committed to the national team.

“Sometimes we should forget about everything. Kevin-Prince Boateng when he came, it was a whole lot but he was able to deliver,” he said during the launch of the KGL U-17 inter-club champions league.

“After the [world cup], they should still be available because this is a national team which does not engage in one tournament," he added.
