President Félix Tshisékédi of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced the country's candidacy to host the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations in 2029.

During a press briefing on Thursday, February 22, 2024, President Tshisékédi outlined the nation's ambitious plans to vie for the opportunity to host the tournament for the first time in its history.

The President expressed his determination to support the Football Association of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Fecofa) in preparing a compelling application to compete against other potential candidates. Infrastructure development initiatives will be launched to ensure the country meets the necessary standards to host such a significant sporting event.

In addition to the bid for the 2029 edition, DR Congo is gearing up to apply for the 2031 Africa Cup of Nations in the event of an unsuccessful bid for the earlier edition.

DR Congo competed in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. South Africa emerged victorious against DR Congo in the third-place match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
