Draw disappoints Valverde

Published on: 09 June 2019

Ernesto Valverde has demanded a big improvement from his Barcelona players when they take on Valencia in the Copa del Rey final.

Valverde was very disappointed with his side's display in the 2-2 draw at Eibar particularly as Lionel Messi had scored twice to give Barca the lead after Marc Cucurella had scored for the home team.

The La Liga champions had to settle for a draw though as Pablo De Blasis grabbed an equaliser for Eibar.

Barca are 1/4 to win the Copa del Rey for the fifth time in a row while a Valencia victory on Saturday can be backed at 11/4.

Valverde said: "All the matches serve (as tests), but Saturday's match will be different because the teams are different and because this was marked by the fact that Eibar didn't play for anything.

"We tried to gauge the intensity of the game and we were good in the first half, but in the second half we couldn't overcome the pressure and we had fewer chances and we made dangerous mistakes.

"We are ready for the final and the game served us well because we were put in our place."

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is expected to play in the final but injured duo Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele may not feature.
