Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has confirmed Asante Kotoko’s interest in striker John Antwi.

The former Al Ahly and Pyramids FC star has become an instant hit for the Still Believe lads, racking up crucial goals in CAF Confederations Cup. He has proven he still has some goal scoring in him by helping Dreams reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dreams FC are in position to progress to the knockout stage of the competition due to their impressive performance.

According to Zito, the Porcupine Warriors has enquired about the services of John Antwi.

“Asante Kotoko have asked for the services of our striker John Antwi but for now, our focus is on the Africa campaign. We will discuss a move with Kotoko after the season. Everything will depend on the player” he told West Gold Radio monitored by Footballghana.com.

Antwi is one of the eleven home-based players to have made the provisional lists of the Black Stars.

Hughton has until January 3 to finalise his selection, reducing the squad to the final 27 players for the tournament.

He earned call-ups to the Black Stars in 2017 and 2020 for World Cup and AFCON qualifiers respectively, winning two senior team caps.

The former Al Ahly and Pyramids FC striker who has not played for the West African giants since 2020 is making a return after earning a place in the provisional lists for the upcoming AFCON competition.

Antwi will hope to make the cut for the major tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast next month.

Ghana are placed in Group B of the 2023 AFCON, alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars have a history of success in the AFCON, having won the title four times, most recently in 1982. However, they have experienced defeat in three finals since then, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 on penalties and Egypt in 2010, as well as a repeat defeat to Ivory Coast in 2015.

The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, January 13 through to February 11, 2024.
