The administrative Manager of Asante Kotoko, Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, has called on the fans to keep supporting the playing body after a torrid start to the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.
The Porcupine Warriors have had a difficult start of the season sitting 14th on the league log just 10 points.
The playing body and the head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum have come under pressure.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Dasoberi acknowledged that the team's current form is not up to par, but believes that they are on the right track with their rebuilding efforts to win the Premier League title.
“Our stand on rebuilding has not changed. The coach has been given a specific task to perform and we believe we are still on the path we've taken. It's just a passing storm, it will go away,” Dasoberi said.
“Of course, coming in is not what we expect, but in a rebuilding process, you realize that all these things are bound to come in it.”
Dasoberi pointed to last season's league winners, Medeama, who were also in a similar position at this point in the season, as evidence that a turnaround is possible.
“Last year around this time, Medeama, the eventual league winners were 14th on the table, just as we are, and they still went ahead to win the league. Nothing is lost,” he said.
While acknowledging the pressure that comes with coaching a team like Asante Kotoko, Dasoberi expressed faith in the abilities of head coach, Ogum.
“A coach of his calibre, he should understand that there would be pressure, even though we are rebuilding, he knows this is Asante Kotoko and nothing is expected apart from success. We just have to have trust; it's not going to be easy, but we will surely do our best to clinch the trophy.”
Dasoberi also urged fans to remain supportive through the tough times.
“We are asking for patience and understanding from our supporters. We know how passionate they are about the club, but we need them to stay behind us and encourage us to do more.”
With the team's current position at the summit, Dasoberi believes that a first-place finish is still within reach.
“It's not too late, we can still make it. We have done it before and we can do it again. We will do our maximum best to ensure that we clinch the trophy at the end of the season.”
Asante Kotoko will be hosted by FC Samartex 1996 in the matchday 10 games at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex on Saturday with kick off scheduled at 15:00GMT.
