Former Black Stars midfielder Eric Addo remains the only Ghanaian to have scooped the Ebony Shoe award as Joseph Paintsil loses out in 2023.

The 44-year-old won the prize in 1998 during his spell with Club Brugge in the Belgian top-flight.

The award given annually to the best African or African origin player in the Belgian Pro League at the end of every season was held on Monday, May 22, 2023 in Belgium.

Paintsil who was in contention to become the second Ghanaian to win the award missed out despite his fine form this season.

The Black Stars winger could not beat competition from his Genk teammates Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye, who bagged the award.

The Rwandan star has provided a record 23 assists and scored eight goals in 35 league games for Genk this season whiles the Ghana international has 15 goals and 11 assists in 34 games.

The 25-year-old winger has been in blistering form since the beginning of the 2022-23 season, having been involved in 30 goals in all competitions for KRC Genk.
