Europa League: Akwasi Frimpong to start against Krasnodar on Thursday

Published on: 22 August 2017

Ghana defender Abraham Akwasi Frimpong will start at the heart of defence on Thursday when Red Star Belgrade welcome Russian side FC Krasnodar to the Rajko Mitic Stadium in the second leg of the final qualifying round for the 2017/2018 Europa League Group Stages.

Frimpong started the first four games in the competition for his side and put up fantastic performances but he has strangely been relegated to the bench in his team’s last three games though he has featured prominently in the domestic Superlig.

The talented Ghanaian is likely to start on Thursday with manager Vladan Milojevic needing a quick ball-playing centre back who can start attack right from the back in their quest to win at home.

Also, Damien Le Tallec is suspended for the game and per the training the team have done this week, Frimpong will partner Vujadin Savic at the back.

Red Star Belgrade lost the first game by three goals to two in Russia and they will nead at least a 1-0 win in Belgrade to sail through.
