Everton boss Unsworth: \'Someone\' axed Niasse to U23s and we rebuilt him

Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth is happy to count on Oumar Niasse.

Niasse has turned his fortunes around in dramatic fashion after being an outcast under Ronald Koeman.

“When he came to the club he hadn't had a pre-season, or it was their winter break, and he hadn't trained for a period of three or four weeks," Unsworth said.

“So he was used sparingly and never got his fitness back up.

“Somebody made a decision on him because it's all about opinions and so he came to us (in the U-23s) and, very similar to what we are now doing with the team, we had to start from the bottom and work up with him, build his fitness, build his confidence, give him the opportunity of minutes.

“And the fitter he got and the more minutes he played, he was scoring goals.

"He then got a loan move to Hull where he scored goals and he's come back to Everton and he's become a fans' favourite, purely because, he's got that desire and work-rate and he's got the goals to show for it.

“But most importantly for me, he's a good guy and you always like to see the good guys do well."
