Ex-captain Asamoah Gyan confident current Black Stars squad will succeed

Legendary striker, Asamoah Gyan believes the current crop of Black Stars players is capable of achieving success for the country.

Following an abysmal performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon, the Black Stars with a blend of young and experienced players put up a decent performance to navigate their way out to qualify for the 2022 World Cup at the expense of Nigeria.

Ghana, however, is yet to win a trophy at any major competition after winning the Africa Cup of Nations title in 1982.

Gyan, has, however, described the current squad as 'young and hungry', insisting that they have the quality to attain glory with the national team as long as they remain focused.

“It’s a generational thing. We’re moving into another generation. New guys are coming up, younger, hungrier, and they are trying to make Ghanaians proud. We’re building a team. All the boys coming up are very young,” Gyan told Citi TV.

When asked if the current crop of players could be successful, Gyan was optimistic, as long as the young players are handled well.

“You might not know. I think we have quality players. Nothing is impossible if the boys are handled well,” he added

Gyan remains the country's top goalscorer with 51 goals having played in 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups in Germany. South Africa and Brazil, among several  the Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
