Ex-Ghana defender Sarfo Gyamfi wants Black Stars built around local players

Former Ghana international Sarfo Gyamfi has suggested the Black Stars must be built around players plying their trade in the domestic top-flight.

Ghana recorded their worse performance at the AFCON and their first exit in the group stage since 2006 after defeat to Comoros last Tuesday.

The four-time African Champions suffered a 3-2 defeat to AFCON debutants at the Roumde Adjia stadium in the Central African country.

It's been a humiliating performance from the Black Stars after finishing bottom of Group C with just a point from three games.

However, according to the former Kotoko star, it is about time the leadership of the Ghana Football Association revisit the days where local players were dominant in Black Stars call ups.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, he said, “It is about time we build the Black Stars around local players. We should select about 25 players from the local scene for camping every week for about a year and I believe things will change”

“We should not rely on this foreign-based players because they will not help us. We should consider only four foreign players who are performing well and add up to the Black Stars team” he said.
