Former Ghana international Derek Boateng has refused to credit former Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac for the team’s exploits under his reign.
In an interview monitored by Footballghana.com on Kumasi-based Wontumi FM, the former Getafe midfielder vehemently stated the Serbian trainer was clueless, as he believes the coach arrived at a time the national team had quality players.
“All the foreign coaches we had during our time in the Black Stars were clueless including Milovan Rajevac. Truth be told, we had a good team. During the 2010 World Cup, myself, Quincy Owusu Abayie, Sulley Muntari and other top players were on the bench and that tells you the kind of team we had. We were playing in top clubs and in top leagues at the time, so it is not like Milovan Rajevac and other foreign coaches did something extraordinary, No”
“We trained as if we are playing a match, every player put in much effort in a bid to get into the starting lineup. There was a serious competition in the team looking at the squad, to me, those foreign coaches did nothing” he said.
The Serbian trainer made history by leading the Black Stars in 2010 to reach the quarter-finals at the World Cup in South Africa.
Few months earlier, he had led Ghana through to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Angola in which they fell to Egypt.
Rajevac was a coach for Ghana between 2008 and 2010. He was reappointed last year but failed to excel in his second stint with the national.
After the Black Stars unimpressive performance at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, the 67-year-old was shown the exit door.
