Ex-Liverpool Star Believes Premier League Title Is Heading 'Back to Where it Belongs'

Published on: 08 November 2016

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes his boyhood club's current form will see them crowned Premier League champions at the end of the season, 'back at where it belongs'.

Jurgen Klopp's men climbed to the top of the table for the first time since 2014 on Sunday when they comprehensively beat Watford 6-1 at Anfield. And Owen, who joined their fierce rivals Manchester United in 2009, is confident the Reds can win their first league title in 26 years.

Top of the league. ⚽🔴

The former Newcastle United ace tweeted after the 6-1 win: 'Top of the league' before being quizzed by his followers if the Premier League title would be 'coming back' to the North West.

Although Owen acknowledged Chelsea and Arsenal, who are just one and two points behind respectively with Manchester City also close, the 36-year-old insisted the title would be 'returning to where it belongs.'

Owen's confidence is in stark contrast to Klopp, who after the match on Sunday, pleaded with supporters to 'stay cool' about talk of a potential title win.

Yep. Arsenal and Chelsea playing well but it's returning where it belongs this season! https://t.co/JgbHMp5lsD

If someone thinks being one point ahead after 11 matchdays is a big sign for the rest of the season, I can't help this person, the former Borussia Dortmund manager said.

We stay calm. We didn't speak one word about the possibility of being top of the table. The only thing you can do is work and stay concentrated. A lot of things can happen in the next weeks and months.

The Reds travel to Southampton, who lost 2-1 to struggling Hull City on Sunday, after the conclusion of the two-weekinternational break.
