Fatawu Mohammed makes maiden appearance for Ghana against South Africa

Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed was handed his first start for Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa at the FnB Stadium.

Mohammed replaced England-based Andy Yiadom who couldn't travel to South Africa due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

He won the MTN FA Cup and 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League title with the Phobians.

CK Akonnor placed him at right-back and had a very busy night against tricky South African wingers throughout the game.

Mohammed was shaky from the start but stood firm after halftime in the ground duels against the South Africans. His attacking side was rarely seen due to the shape and style of play of the team at the FnB Stadium.

South Africa managed to score in the 83rd minute through Bongokuhle Hlongwane after a cross from Victor Letsoalo.

South Africa moved on top of Group G with four points leaving Ghana in the second position with three points.
