FEATURE: Ghana's Thomas Partey a potential dynamic midfield presence for Chelsea

Chelsea are extremely interested in signing Thomas Partey this summer, according to an exclusive on Chelsea News tonight.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder is on a low wage after breaking into the first team over the last few years and is looking for a monster new contract, either in Spain or abroad.

Chelsea apparently have considered bids on two previous occasions, only to decide for separate reasons that they would stick with what they had.

He was seen as a bad fit for Maurizio Sarri’s system, and it’s easy to see why. The club were determined to give the Italian what he needed to succeed, and his favoured pivot Jorginho was brought in at great cost at the same time.

But now Frank Lampard, with a more dynamic and freeform style, is the boss, and the club could do with a player in Partey’s style.

Jorginho looks a little obsolete in Lampard’s current setup, and N’Golo Kante is slowing down. Partey offers a superb balance of attacking and defensive qualities, along with a brilliant engine to complement both.

He could play a variety of roles in Lampard’s team, and while €50m isn’t cheap when you compare it to the outlay on Jorginho and Tiemoue Bakayoko in recent years, it’s not expensive either.
