Fernando Torres Released From Hospital After Sickening Head Injury Against Deportivo

Fernando Torres has been released from hospital after taking a sickening blow to the head in Atletico's Thursday night game against Deportivo, initially described by his club as a 'traumatic brain injury'.


Manager Diego Simeone admitted after the match that he initially feared a serious neck injury for the former Chelsea striker after hearing a 'crack' from his position on the bench, but the club have moved to allay fears of a serious injury after hospital tests.

Astatement on the club's websiteread: "Fernando Torres has undergone a cranial and cervical CT that has ruled out any alteration or traumatic injuries for the red and white forward, after the strong blow to the head he suffered in this Thursday's match at Riazor.


"Our player, who is stable, conscious and lucid, had to be rushed in an ambulance after being stabilised according to the usual protocol, before being admitted to La Coruña's Modelo Hospital, where he will spend the night for observation."

The statement also carried a message said to be from Torres himself, telling fans:"Thank you all for worrying about me and for your messages of support. It's just been a scare. I hope to come back very soon!"


Simeone added after the game:"He is conscious. He has a head injury. We are worried about the blow he suffered.The move was not good, but these are situations that unfortunately happen in the game. We expect the best for Fernando Torres."
