FOCUS ON ROMA VS LAZIO

Published on: 17 March 2022

* After their win 3-2 in the reverse fixture, Lazio could win two Serie A games in a row against Roma for the first time since November 2012 (three in a row).

* Lazio have won two of the last three Rome derbies in Serie A (L1), as many they had in their previous 15 beforehand; however, Lazio have not won either of their last two league games against Roma played in the second half of a season (D1 L1).

* Roma are unbeaten at home against Lazio in Serie A since April 2017 (1-3); since then, Roma have won three such meetings and drawn once, while the Giallorossi could keep a clean sheet in two home derbies in a row for the first time since 2011 (three).

* Roma are unbeaten in their last eight Serie A games (W4 D4), while they last had a longer such run within a single season in May 2019 (each of their last nine Serie A games in 2018/19 under Claudio Ranieri).

* Lazio have kept six league clean sheets in 2022; only Real Sociedad (seven) have kept more in the big-five European leagues this calendar year. Lazio have not conceded in six of their last eight league games, this after keeping only two clean sheets in their first 21 Serie A games this term.

* Lazio have Serie A’s best positive difference between goals and expected goals this season (+13), while Roma have the poorest (-10).

* Maurizio Sarri could become the first Lazio coach to win both of his first two Serie A derbies against Roma since Sven Goran Eriksson in 1997/98, while José Mourinho could become the first Roma coach to lose his first two such games since Luis Enrique in 2011/12.

* Lazio’s Jordan Veretout has been directly involved in five Serie A goals against Roma (four goals and one assist), his most against a single opponent, while he also scored his only hat-trick in the competition against them (April 2018 for Fiorentina). The French midfielder also netted his last goal in the top-flight against Roma in the reverse fixture in September.

* Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been directly involved in more Serie A goals this term than any other midfielder (17, eight goals, nine assists). The Serbian has never had a hand in more goals in a single campaign in the division (also 17 in 2020/21).

* Ciro Immobile has scored four times in Serie A derbies against Roma; in the competition’s history, only two Lazio players have netted more: Silvio Piola (six) and Tommaso Rocchi (five).
