Struggling Ebusua Dwarfs have made an audacious move to engage former Black Stars striker, Kim Grant, as part of efforts to turn around their fortunes in the Ghana Premier League.
The UK-based coach is expected in the country tomorrow to assume the role of a technical director in the club days after parting ways with Coach Joseph Emmanuel (J.E) Sarpong for non-performance.
A grapevine source told the Graphic Sports yesterday that though Grant had preferred to replace Sarpong, his recommendation came a shade late after Dwarfs had sealed a short-term deal with a Cape Coast University lecturer, Prosper Narteh.
Narteh, a 38-year-old CAF Licence A holder, was released to Dwarfs by the Physical Education Department of the University till the end of the season with a mandate to save the bottom club from relegation after claiming only nine points from 11 matches.
The unsung technical brain, credited with qualifying Elmina Sharks from Division Two to Division One, was introduced to the players of Dwarfs in Cape Coast last Wednesday as the new head coach just before Grant’s offer came through.
The source said Grant expressed interest in the Dwarfs job through a Ghanaian agent based in the UK and was more interested in being given the chance to prove himself on the local scene other than monetary considerations. All he requested for was a flight ticket to which the management of Dwarfs obliged to facilitate his trip back home this weekend.
The 43-year-old Grant, a native of Sekondi-Takoradi, is the founder of KG International Football Academy (KG-IFA) which was established in the UK in January 2014.
As a player, the Charlton Athletic and Luton Town striker featured for the Black Stars between 1996 and 1997 during Nana Sam Brew-Butler’s era as the FA chairman, and scored one goal in seven caps.
Grant had his first coaching stint as the manager of Conference National side, Woking, in May 2008 but was sacked after picking two points from seven games.
Not willing to give up on his passion, the ambitious young man returned to Ghana in the summer of 2009 to form and Coach FC Takoradi.
