Former Inter Allies defender enjoyed his first minutes in a New York Red Bulls jersey when he featured in the club's defeat to Houston Dynamo.
The Ghanaian came on in the 65 minute as his side crushed to a 5-0 defeat to Dynamos in the Mobile Mini Cup in Cup at the Mino Complex.
Akwei joined the Americans last week after the expiration of his contract with Ghanaian side Inter Allies. He played three season for the "Capelli Boys" and was exceptional last season, when he played 23 games and scored three goals.
The 23 year old to took social media to express delight on his debut game but was disappointed with the results.
