Former Kotoko midfielder Umar Bashiru in contention for top award in Ethiopian Premier League

Ghanaian midfielder Umar Bashiru has been nominated for the best player award in the Ethiopian Premier League after explosive display throughout the season.

The former Asante Kotoko marksman who joined Ethiopian Insurance FC before the start of the 2022/23 season has established himself as a key cog to the club.

He has become an instant hit for the club, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 27 games across competitions for the club and also, winning the man of the match prize on several occasions.

Bashiru has been instrumental for the newly promoted side, who are finishing the season in 3rd place on the league standings with 49 points from 29 games with a game to spare.

His impeccable displays did not go unnoticed and earning Ehtiopian Premier League best player of the season nomination.

The former Karela United and WAFA star will have to beat competition from Togo striker Ismail Ouro-Agoro, Ethiopia international duo Getaneh Kebede, Chernet Gugsa, and three others to land the coveted award.

Bashiru departed Ghana for Ethiopia last year after leaving Karela United.
