Former Kotoko player Osei Kwame Junior slams players over poor Ghana Premier League performance

Former Asante Kotoko left-back Osei Kwame Junior has taken a swipe at players following their unimpressive performance in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors has been dismal in the domestic top-flight and are currently ranked 11th in the standings with 33 points.

The Ghanaian giants has suffered six defeats in their last seven games in the Ghanaian top-flight, picking just a point across the period.

Kotoko have won only one game in 2024 following a sharp decline in form, which has seen the Kumasi-based giants drop from title contenders to survival hopefuls.

Speaking to Kessben FM monitored by Footballghana.com, Osei Kwame refused to blame coach Prosper Narteh Ogum alone for the club’s setbacks as he believes players have underperformed.

Many players have written their names in the history books of Kotoko and now it’s their time to also add their names. The players should ask themselves, what achievement are they leaving for the club? Can they call themselves legends? They are younger brothers and it’s our duty to let them know that the team they are playing has history just like Real Madrid in Spain”

“It’s a privilege to play for Kotoko and for that matter, they should put in all seriousness when they put on the jersey of the club. They should also know that Kotoko is bigger than their former clubs. The boys aren’t serious and that’s the truth”

“We keep blaming coaches for the woes in Kotoko which is not fair. Even though the coach has a few lapses but that doesn’t mean we should apportion all the blames on the coach. The players don’t put in seriousness when they are playing and that’s embarrassing” he said.

Kotoko, who are currently eleventh on the table will face leaders Samartex on Sunday before a game against champions Medeama SC.
