George Afriyie: If Chris Hughton cannot do Black Stars job then nobody can do it

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie has made a bold statement to back the appointment of Chris Hughton as the new Black Stars head coach.

According to him, if the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager cannot do the job with the experience he has, then nobody can.

"Chris, for me, should have taken us to the World Cup. Because you have a manager who has managed a top English football club. You and I know that there is no argument about this, that the English league, the Spanish, and German leagues are the best three in the world.

"So if you have a coach who has managed in the top three leagues in the world coming into your country as the national team coach, if he can't do it, trust me nobody can do it," George Afriyie told 3Sports.

The Ghana FA in February confirmed the appointment of Chris Hughton as the new national team head coach.

Next week, the gaffer will take charge of his first official match when Ghana takes on Angola in the next round of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
