Gerrard heaps praise on Man Utd youngster Rashford

It is rare to hear a Liverpool legend praising a Manchester United youngster.

But ex-Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is a massive fan of Marcus Rashford.

"I love how direct he is," said Gerrard on BT Sport. "When he smells blood he just goes right at defenders and with that pace he plays to his strengths."

Rashford broke into the first team under Louis van Gaal, operating primarily as a striker and scoring crucial goals against Arsenal and Manchester City.

But he has reverted to a wide role under Jose Mourinho, featuring as a left and right winger in various games.

Gerrard believes that defenders live in fear of players like Rashford.

"If you're a defender in that position he's one player you don't want to come up against, especially when he gets you in a wide area in a one-v-one, he can absolutely destroy you," he said.

Rashford already has three goals and four assists in the Premier League, with a further three goals in the Champions League. He will be hoping to add to his tally if he features in the derby against Manchester City on Sunday.
