Ghana international Andre Ayew was on target for Le Havre but it was not enough to save his outfit from defeat against Clermont Foot in the French Ligue 1.

The Black Stars captain was called action in his sides away game against Clermont Foot on Sunday afternoon.

Ayew made a good account of himself in the much-anticipated encounter despite his side succumbing to a 2-1 defeat at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied.

Clermont Foot opened the scoring after just 12 minutes into the game through Muhammed-Cham Saracevic but Ayew stepped up to equalize for the visitors on the verge of halftime break.

But Muhammed-Cham Saracevic scored again from the spot before the end of the first half to restore his sides lead.

And with no additional goal, Clermont Foot cruised to victory to merit the three maximum points in the game.

Ayew joined the French outfit in November 2023 and has since established himself as a key member of the team.

The former Swansea City and West Ham United star has managed three goals from 12 games so far this season for Le Havre.

He was adjudged Le Havre Player of the Month in February following his stellar performance in the month.

Ayew will lead the Black Stars during the March international break to face Nigeria and Uganda after being named in Otto Addo's squad for both games.
