Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila on the radar of Newcastle United

Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila has emerged on the radar of English Premier League side Newcastle United.

The 24 year old Al Qadsia defender has been on top form since moving to Kuwait and his performances has seen him attract interest from several Championship sides.

The latest development means the Ghanaian could leave Al Qadsia in the winter transfer window. However, Newcastle will have to battle some Championship sides for his signature.

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko defender nearly joined Scottish giants Celtic in the summer transfer window. Reports indicates the Scots are till interested in the Ghanaian.

Newcastle United have had a shaky start to the season, with the club losing 3-0 over the weekend against Watford at home.

Manager Rafael Benitez has identified the Ghana as a possible addition in January to beef up the Magpies defence.

Rashid Sumaila represented Ghana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and the FIFA world Cup in Brazil 2014.
