'Ghana has talented players but lacks cohesive team to compete' - GFA EXCO Member Tony Aubynn

Dr. Tony Aubynn, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and board member of Medeama SC, has expressed his perspective on the current state of Ghana football.

He stated that Ghana possesses talented individual players but lacks a cohesive team to achieve success on the international stage.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Aubynn shared his thoughts on Ghana's prospects in the forthcoming competitions, notably the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

He voiced his belief that those who claim otherwise are misleading the Ghanaian public.

Acknowledging the abundance of talent within Ghanaian football, both within the domestic league and among players based in Europe, Aubynn pointed out that individual brilliance alone is insufficient to secure triumph at the highest level.

He emphasized the crucial factor of team dynamics, cohesion, and collective performance as the determining elements for success.

"We have talented players in Europe and in our local league but I wonder if we have a team.

"What we need to do as a country is to lower our expectations as Ghanaians and then build from the base. If we still believe we are good enough to beat Brazil or win Afcon at this level of our team, then we will be deceiving ourselves."

Ghana is yet to qualify for the 2023 AFCON after failing to beat Madagascar in the round five of qualifiers.
