Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu has returned to training at Newcastle United ahead of their game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Atsu has not featured for the Magpies after sustaining a hamstring injury during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Egypt.

The 27-year-old was flown back to England for further assessment by the United medical team due to the injury he suffered which ended his tournament prematurely.

The former FC Porto forward was not due to return to action soon, however, his return will be a huge boost for the United after losing their first two games to Arsenal and Norwich City in the 2019/20 English Premier League season.

He trained with his teammates at the St. James Park on Wednesday and is likely to play a part against Spurs on Sunday on match week three of the Premier League.
