Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan to organize farewell game to raise funds for late Christian Atsu's family

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is planning to organize a farewell game to raise funds for the late Christian Atsu’s family.

Atsu died in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6 killing about 4,500 people.

Atsu who scored in Hatayaspor’s game against Kasimpasa few hours earlier before the earthquake struck was trapped under the rubble for 12 days before his lifeless body was retrieved.

The former Newcastle United midfielder mortal remains arrived in Ghana on Sunday via Turkish Airplanes and has been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital.

In an interview with Peace FM, Gyan disclosed plans to organize a game in a bid to raise funds for the family of the late Ghana star.

“I’m planning to organize a game to raise money for the family. I believe when that day comes, everyone including the stars will come on board to support us so that we can raise funds for the family of Christian Atsu”

The 31-year-old one-week observation has been scheduled for March 4, 2023.

During his career, Atsu played 65 matches for Ghana, scoring nine goals. Two of his most famous goals came in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt and in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, quarter-finals clash against Guinea, where he scored an absolutely breathtaking goal.
