Former Ghanaian midfielder, Michael Essien, has named Luka Modrić as his favourite midfielder during his recent visit to the Santiago Bernabeu to watch Real Madrid and Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
Essien, who played for Chelsea and Real Madrid in his career, described Modrić's career as "incredible," praising the Croatian's outstanding talent.
"Favourite midfielder? The first is surely Luka Modrić. He's an amazing player and he's been a friend to me when I was here. His career is incredible."
The former Black Stars midfielder's close relationship with Modrić was evident when only the Croatian and former Chelsea teammate Ricardo Carvalho turned up to Essien's 30th birthday celebrations during his time at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid beat Chelsea 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal fixture, putting them in a good position ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge.
Essien now works as an assistant coach at Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.
