Ghana international Caleb Ekuban featured for Trabzonspor as they survived a late scare to progress to the group stage of the UEFA Europa League despite losing 2-0 in the second leg tie against AEK Athens on Thursday.

Despite the defeat, the Turkish side have reached the group stage of the competition following a 3-3 aggregate scoreline.

Ekuban bagged a hat-trick in the first leg but goals from Croatian Marko Livaja and Petros Mandalos ensured the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate.

His treble ensured the Turkish giants avoided a heartbreak after losing 2-0 at home in the return leg tie.

The 25-year-old has already scored four goals in four matches in the qualifying campaign for Trabzonspor so far this season.

The draw for the UEFA Europa League will take place on Friday.
