Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against South Africa postponed

Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against South Africa has been postponed due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

This has been confirmed by South Africa FA’s acting Chief Executive Officer Gay Mokoena. Speaking to TimesLIVE on Friday, he revealed that the fixture which would have been the second meeting between the Black Stars and the Bafana Bafana has been postponed because of the pandemic.

The first meeting between the two clubs ended with Ghana winning 2-0 in a match that was played at the Cape Coast Stadium.

The second meeting was scheduled to be played between June 1-7 in South Africa on June 6 in what would have been another tough clash.

All the qualifying matches have been pushed to September and October but even that will depend on whether the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic has been won or not.

Ghana after winning all of its first 2 matches in the qualifiers to the 2021 AFCON is currently sitting top of the Group C table which has the likes of Sudan as well as Sao Tome and Principe.
