Five years after leaving Cagliari, Ghanaian international Godfred Donsah has revealed that it was difficult to part ways with the side to join Bologna.

The defensive midfielder started his career in Italy with Palermo before subsequently landing a deal at Verona in the summer of 2013.

A short but impressive stint saw the player joining Cagliari On 17 July 2014 for a fee of €2.16 million. There he excelled and made a lot of good memories with his teammates as well as the supporters.

A year on, Godfred Donsah signed a four-year contract with Bologna as he took a step further in his career.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport in the midst of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease, the midfielder has recounted how he left Cagliari. According to him, it was very hard to leave.

“Cagliari was the first team of my life. I was told that it would be hard with Zeman, that we would die work, but I would never have believed so much. There were Joao Pedro, Daniele Conti, Rossettini whom I later found in Bologna, Barella and Cragno who were two boys like me. Then, there was him ... Gianfranco Zola , who like Toni I've always seen as a Martian”, he said.

Donsah added, “Cagliari loved me and I loved Cagliari, then people loved me. And I have to tell you the truth, it was hard to leave it. The negotiation with Bologna was complicated. I remember that President Giulinihe made a great resistance before giving in to me”.

The 23-year-old spent the 2019/2020 season on loan at Belgian Jupiler Pro League club Cercle Brugge. He has returned to his parent club and says he hopes to get to play in the Serie A for his Bologna team next season.
