GPL sponsor betPawa should pay promotion funds directly to clubs, says Dreams FC GM

The General Manager of Dreams FC, Ameenu Shardow, says that the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), betPawa, must pay the promotion money directly to the clubs, rather than handling it themselves.

betPawa had committed around $1 million of the sponsorship money towards promoting the league, but there are complaints that their efforts have not been effective.

Lately, the GPL has been experiencing low fan attendance, and people are questioning how the league promotion money is being used.

"I do not agree with betPawa's approach of investing $1m into the promotion and marketing of the league," he told Oyerepa FM.

"When it comes to promoting and advertising the league, I firmly believe that the main proponents are the clubs. Therefore, if there is any funding available, it must be directed towards the clubs.

"I am a firm believer that the clubs are the main drivers of promotion in the Premier League. Therefore, if there is any money set aside for promotion, it must be given to the clubs.

"It has now emerged that part of the money is being used as a locker room bonus, but if there is a fund for promotion, the clubs must receive a significant portion of it so that they can consistently engage with their fans."
