Gundogan Reminds Man City He's Not Actually Dead After Humiliating Backward Shirt Gaffe

Published on: 18 December 2016

Manchester City mourned the tragic passing of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan before Sunday's crunch Premier League clash, with the whole starting XI wearing the German's shirt on top of their own as a mark of respect for their fallen comrade while lining up pre-match.

Hold on a moment...he's not dead?

"Don't worry - I'm still alive," Gundogan had to comically tweet after the game.

Thanks to my teammates & of course - congrats to my boys to this crucial win against #AFC PS: Don't worry - I'm still alive 😉 #MCIARS pic.twitter.com/det9q7C8Wp

The player's season is unfortunately over after he damaged knee ligaments against Watford last week, but the way that his team-mates went about their 'tribute' this weekend, anyone could have been forgiven for thinking he'd been killed in some kind of terrible accident.

"Thanks to my teammates & of course - congrats to my boys to this crucial win against Arsenal," he also said, after goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling cancelled out an early Gunners goal from Theo Walcott.

@IlkayGuendogan haha! #RIP
