The head coach for the Black Stars team, CK Akonnor has explained that Jeffrey Schlupp has returned to the team because he adds force and speed to the team among many other things.
The Crystal Palace asset has been out of the Ghana senior national team for a while and even missed out on playing at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament hosted in Egypt.
Following an outstanding campaign in the English Premier League last season, Jeffrey Schlupp has returned to the Ghana team ahead of a friendly game against Mali next month.
For coach C.K Akonnor, it is right for the return of the versatile player because of what he brings on board.
“He is somebody who brings a force and speed into the game, speed of thought and that we have seen what he has done with Crystal Palace in the past, currently in good shape and they won recently against the big Manchester United where he played a major role", Coach Akonnor said in an interview as quoted on the website of the GFA.
He continued, “I had a personal chat with him when I was there, one on one, he told me his problems and I think once we are able to give him that necessary chance and respect, he deserves, why not, he is here and most of these guys are in to prove a point. Don’t forget this is a friendly match and I think before November, we must know exactly those who can help us in the qualifiers and that is why all these opportunities have come for these guys.
The Ghana friendly against Mali will be played in the city of Antalya on October 9.
