Honoured Ghana coach CK Akonnor keen on sealing World Cup qualification with Black Stars

Ghana head coach, CK Akonnor has described as gratifying the chance given to him by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to be the head coach of the Black Stars.

The coach was appointed new head coach for the West African national team at the beginning of the year and tasked to lead the team to the 2021 AFCON as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking to FIFA ahead of Ghana’s opening game in the qualifiers for the World Cup, CK Akonnor says the responsibility is very big.

“It’s a huge responsibility, even for me in a country where we are so passionate about football. It is gratifying that myself and many other young coaches have been entrusted with such big roles. Many of the young coaches have so far lived up to expectations and some of us are very hopeful of excelling in the roles we find ourselves,” coach Akonnor said as quoted on the website of FIFA.

The Ghana coach added, “In my case, there is a huge opportunity to take Ghana to the FIFA World Cup™ and to also win the Africa Cup of Nations. That’s what I’m working very hard towards.”

Ghana today will host Ethiopia in the first match of ty FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The match is scheduled to be played at the Cape Coast Stadium and will kick off at 19:00GMT.
