I have plans of taking up a head coach role - Black Stars technical advisor Chris Hughton

Technical Advisor of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton says he has not given up on taking up a head coach role of a team.

The former Newcastle United and Brighton boss was named as the technical advisor in February ahead of the 2022 World Cup playoff game against Nigeria.

Speaking about a return to the dugout, the 66-year-old said he still has the enthusiasm to manage and wants to return to the top job in the future.

“I’ve still got a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy, and I see myself always doing something. I can’t see myself not working,” he told the Daily Mail.

“Once you take on a management role, you don’t think there’s not enough stability in what you’re doing. If that’s the case, football management is the wrong business for you.

“And that’s not going to change. The ownership of clubs is different these days. It attracts huge businessmen and they want success quickly.”

Discussing Ghana’s chances at the World Cup, Hughton said the team will need a bit of luck when they go to Qatar.

The Black Stars have been paired with a difficult group that also contains Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea for next month’s tournament.

Hughton said he has no doubt that the team will give its all during the World Cup, but noted that they’ll need a bit of luck to excel.

“One thing I’m confident of is the work Otto and the technical staff have put in. This team will be very well prepared and the players will give everything,” the former Nottingham Forest manager told Daily Mail.

“We will have to play well and we’ll need a bit of luck. But we’ve seen in past tournaments that anything is possible for a country like ours.”

Ghana have been housed in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
