Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has opened up about his game plan after his team secured another famous 1-0 victory over Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.

The win in the match week 18 clash came courtesy of Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah’s second-half goal at the Kpando Stadium.

The former Medeama midfielder found space in the penalty area to finish just after the interval.

Reflecting on the victory, Hayford revealed his strategy, stating, “As for Kotoko, I’ve been coaching other teams to meet them, and I don’t think they’ve ever been a problem for me.”

“Some of them hear the name Kotoko and they start panicking, so I psyched them and told them that, yes, it is one of the biggest clubs in Africa but doesn’t mean we cannot play them,” he explained.

Under Hayford’s guidance, Lions have shown promise, winning three out of four league matches since his appointment, with their only setback being a 2-2 draw against defending champions, Medeama SC.

The victory against Kotoko temporarily lifted Lions out of the relegation zone, with 18 points to their name.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s loss marked Kotoko’s first defeat in eight matches, highlighting the significance of Lions’ achievement.
