Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku has revealed that he speaks the popular Ghanaian language, Twi.

Twi is a language spoken in southern and central Ghana by several million people, mainly of the Akan ethnic group. It is a variety of the Akan language and is the most widely spoken of the Akan dialects.

In a recent interview with Premier League TV, the 21-year-old, fluent in Twi, emphasized his deep connection to his parents' homeland.

"I'm Ghanaian. My parents are also Ghanaians. I speak Twi, which is the language of Ghana. So I have to go back again because it's been a long time," Doku affirmed, expressing his eagerness to revisit Ghana.

Despite choosing to play for Belgium on the international stage, Doku's admiration for Ghana remains evident. He disclosed having only visited Ghana twice, acknowledging the need to reconnect with his roots.

In addition to his cultural ties, the talented winger also expressed his fondness for Ghana's unique attributes, particularly its language and music. "I like Ghana. I like the way they talk. I like the music," he stated, highlighting the multifaceted appreciation he holds for his heritage.

The Ghana Football Association reportedly made attempts to get the 21-year-old to play for Ghana but it didn’t work.
