I will be responsible for my decisions, says Black Stars coach Chris Hughton

Chris Hughton has insisted that he will be responsible for his decisions as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

The 64-year-old has signed a 21-month deal as confirmed by the Ghana Football Association [GFA] last month.

Hughton replaced Otto Addo who left his role following the country's early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The country's football governing body has been accused of interfering in the work of the head coach of the Black Stars.

However, the former Premier League manager says he is not interested in what has happened in the past.

According to him, he has been in football for years and he will be responsible for his actions.

"I can’t speak about anything in the past or what has been said in the past," he told SuperSport.

"All I can say is that I have been involved in coaching, management and a head coach for a long time now and that comes with a lot of experience

"I am used to and I get well with people because I think it is about my personality but ultimately, being successful of the team or nonsuccess will be done to me and the players so ultimately I have to make sure that every decision that I take will be my decision

"What I need is the support of the backroom staff and also from the Ghana Football Association and that is what I have had so far.

"So it is difficult to speak about anything in the past. I can tell you that I have worked in football and I have the experience of being in the game for a long time and ultimately, every decision I will take will be mine.

"The coach is always responsible for his tactics, picking his team. Ultimately, he has the responsibility for all these," he added.

Hughton recorded a win and draw in his first two games played in teh 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers against Angola last month.

Ghana are on the verge of securing qualification for the tournament that would be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

The Black Stars sit top of Group E with 8 points after four games played and will wrap up their qualification games against Madagascar and the Central African Republic in June later this year.

He will be hoping to lead the team to end the country's 41 years of trophy drought.
