If players agree to take pay cut I will be in full support – Juve Stabia defender Bright Addae

Ghanaian international Bright Addae has confirmed that he is ready to take a pay cut at Juve Stabia if the playing body of the club collectively decides to take that step.

In the midst of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, clubs all over the world are feeling the heat financially with one of their main sources of income [from gate proceeds] not generating any funds.

Italy which remains under lockdown as a precautionary measure against the spread of the disease has all of its football leagues suspended for the past 4 weeks.

As clubs consider pay cuts with their players to help them survive these tough times, the topic has come up at Serie B club Juve Stabia. Giving his take on a practice which has already been adopted by some of the top clubs in Europe, Juve Stabia defender Bright Addae has expressed his readiness to accept pay cut to help his club.

“I am human and the president [of Juve Stabia] is also human. In our line of work we help each other and so if there is no active football, if everything has been suspended and the president is not getting income from the supporters and he voices out with such suggestion [pay cut] you have to also reason with him.

“For me if they decided pay cut for players, I cannot agree alone. It is all the players that will have to discuss so at the end, whatever decision will be taken is what I will also do”, Bright Addae told Accra 100.5FM.

Football in Italy remains on hold but the governing body will discuss the way forward for the remainder of the season on April 15, 2020.
