Former Ghana international John Mensah is pursuing evangelism after calling it a quit from professional football.
The former Black Stars skipper retired from football seven years ago, ending his illustrious football career.
Mensah is considered as one of the best defenders the country has ever produced considering his exploits during his playing days.
Speaking to the media, Mensah disclosed he is now spreading the gospel to Ghanaians after ending his footballer career.
“I mostly spent time at the church. Having retired from the game, I think it is time for to also spread the word of God to others. I’m now into evangelism” he said.
Mensah was instrumental for the Black Stars, when they defied all odds to reach the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup in 2010. He was also played a pivotal as the team finished second in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
He was also part of the squad that secured the Black Stars first World Cup qualification in 2006.
The former Sunderland defender can boast of 86 appearances and three goals for the Black Stars.
Mensah also played for the Ghana U20 team (Black Satellites) at the 2001 FIFA U20 World Cup where he helped the team to the finals.
In addition, he played at the 2006, 2008 and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
At club level, the budding defender who was nicknamed “the rock” played for Chievo Verona, Rennes, Lyon, Sunderland and others.
