I'm very happy to be here - Ex-Ghana coach Grant on his appointment as Zambia's new coach

Former Ghana coach Avram Grant has expressed his excitement after he was appointed as Zambia's new head coach.

The 67-year-old penned a two-year contract with an option for another year.

Grant faces a daunted task to qualify the Chipolopolo to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

"I'm very happy to be here. I think Zambia has potential," Grant told a news conference.

Grant has previous experience managing in Africa, having led Ghana to the final at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were beaten on penalties by Ivory Coast.

However, he left his role as Black Stars coach after finishing fourth in the AFCON two years later, losing to eventual winners Cameroon.

Grant replaces Croatian gaffer Aljosa Asanovic, who resigned in September 2022 after just nine months.

During his spell as the manager of English giants Chelsea, Grant guided the London club to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2008, where they lost to Manchester United on penalty shootouts.
