Inter legend blasts Spalletti over excuses

Sandro Mazzola didn’t hold back in criticizing Inter coach Luciano Spalletti, stating he is making excuses for his team’s slow start to the season.

The Nerazzurri sit on just one point from their first two matches, as their opening day defeat to Sassuolo was followed by a disappointing 2-2 draw with Torino on Sunday.

Inter were ahead 2-0 in the encounter, and Mazzola believes Spalletti should focus on instilling a winning mentality rather than making excuses for his side’s shortcomings.

“Maybe Spalletti isn’t able to get his message across to his players,” he told RMC Sport.

“He says it’s journalists calling Inter the anti-Juve? Those are all excuses due to the poor results.

“This team lacks a winning mentality. The coach must work on the player’s psyche, it isn’t possible to give away a two-goal lead.”

Mazzola also had a recommendation for Samir Handanovic, who’s error on Torino’s opening goal started the comeback.

“He needs to visit an eye doctor,” the Inter legend added.

Inter will look to bounce back away to Bologna on Saturday.
