Ghana legend, Asamoah Gyan has admitted that it was a difficult decision for him to move to the Chinese Super League.
After an impressive stint with Al Ain in UAE, Gyan in July 2015 joined Shanghai SIPG in a two-year deal with a weekly salary of £227,000.
However, speaking to Wontumi Radio, the 39-year-old admitted it was a difficult move but, after consulting with his family, they collectively believed it was the right career move.
"It was a difficult decision for me, but I spoke to everyone around me, and we decided it was the best move for me," he said.
"Luckily, it turned out well for me, and we have managed to establish companies that are employing Ghanaians," he added. Asamoah Gyan, who played for Liberty Professionals, Stade Rennes, Udinese, and Sunderland also went to also played for Kayserispor, North East United and Legon Cities before announcing his retirement in June 2023.
He remains the country's all-time leading goalscorer with 51 goals and Africa's highest goalscorer in the history of the World Cup.
