James Rodriguez Move to China Looks Likely After Agent Meets Tianjin Quanjin President

Published on: 13 January 2017

The Chinese continue to stun the global football community with insane bids for their players, and James Rodriguez is just one who has been the subject of speculation over a move to Asia.

James Rodriguez's agent is Jorge Mendes, who also represents a wide variety of the best footballing talents around - Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea included.

The agent has been pictured meeting Tianjin Quanjin president Shu Yuhiu, which has led some to believe that the move is on. Though the Ronaldo shirt is held, the Portuguese has already turned down a China move and there is no other indication that he is going.

Hebei Fortune have already had to deny a £95m bid for the player (that's £6m more than Manchester United's signing of Paul Pogba totalled).

Rodriguez signed at Real Madridfor £63m in 2014 from AS Monaco, but has struggled to satisfy manager Zinedine Zidane's demands and has slipped from the first team. Chelsea were the English club closest to capitalising on Rodriguez by bringing him in.

Chelsea are also the club who have suffered the most from monster bids from the Chinese leagues. Oscar has already departed for a ridiculous £60m, and Diego Costa seems to have been unsettled by a reported £80m bid which would earn him £30m a year in wages - after tax!

Some of Jorge Mendes's clients have already made switches to the Chinese league - a trend which is becoming worrying for the integrity of football. Jackson Martinez, Ricardo Carvalho, Axel Witsel and Luis Fabiano are all signed, sealed and delivered in Asia already.

It's becoming a case of 'who's next' in the saga of Chinese bidding, and it looks like nobody is safe.
