Jamie Carragher Hails Mesut Ozil's Form But Insists He Must Continue to Keep Scoring for Arsenal

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has lavished praise on 'man of the week' Mesut Ozil but believes that he must continue his goal scoring form if Arsenal are to be successful this season.

The German has been in exceptional form so far having netted seven goals already this year, meaning he is one away from matching his tally for last season.

Ozil made headlines in the week after scoring an outrageous winner for Arsenal in their 3-2 win over Ludogorets in a Champions League group stage match.

Ozil basically just ended those two defenders' careers for fun. Outrageous. https://t.co/lKp2uS1oIQ

And speaking in his column with theDaily Mail, Carragher who is better known for his work with Sky Sports, has heaped praise on the play-maker, insisting that his solo effort from the week was a magnificent goal.

He wrote:"Forget about the opposition, just marvel at the goal he scored against Ludogorets to complete Arsenal's stunning comeback.

"People will ask ˜who was it against?' and say the Ludogorets goalkeeper, Milan Borjan, was ˜Sunday League standard'. Well, even if he was Sunday League standard, to lob a keeper and pass the ball to yourself is a stunning piece of skill, but Ozil was not done.

"To then have the composure to let two defenders fly in on him ” most defenders in the world would have done exactly the same to protect an open goal ” but take another touch before rolling a shot in was magnificent. It was a moment befitting a £42.5 million player."

Whilst Ozil has so far shown another dimension to his game, Carragher feels that it is too early to judge the German and has now urged the Arsenal star to show greater consistency in his game, starting this Sunday in the all importantNorth London derby.

The former Liverpool defender added: "Ozil has received praise for the amount of assists he has contributed since he has been in the Premier League but what really puts a player in the spotlight is goals. If Arsenal are going to get to where Arsene Wenger wants them to be, Ozil will have to maintain his frequency.

"There could be no better place to keep up his record than against Tottenham."

A win for the Gunners would take them to the top of the Premier League table after leaders Manchester City conceded a last minute equaliser to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.
