Jeremie Frimpong reveals Ghana FA contact before Holland debut

Dutch-born Ghanaian Jeremie Frimpong has revealed the Ghana Football Association contacted him over nationality switch before debuting for the Oranges.

Frimpong was eligible to represent Ghana, the Netherlands and England at international level, but he opted to play for the Oranges.

He made his debut for Holland in the Euro 2024 qualifiers against France in October 2023. This means Ghana’s hope of switching nationality for the defender has dashed.

Speaking to Joy Sports, Frimpong disclosed he had already made up his mind to represent the Netherlands before the Ghana FA approached him.

"That was nice to finally make my debut against France. It was a nice game and I was really happy about it," he told Joy Sports.

"The coach called me, I had a conversation with him but my mind was already made up," he added.

The 22-year-old has been in blistering form in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen, contributing 13 goals across all competitions for the German outfit.

The right-back is currently on the radar of Spanish giants Barcelona ahead of the winter transfer window.
