Jerome Opoku is a ball-playing central defender who can also play at left-back, the 21-year-old joined Ryan Lowe’s Pilgrims on an initial deal until January.

He spoke to Plymouth Argyle Media after signing his contract and revealed that he was excited about joining the Pilgrims.

The defender joined on-loan from Premier League Fulham on Friday lunchtime, having spent the past few days getting to know his new teammates on the training ground.

The 6’4’’ defender said: “I came in on Tuesday, and I’ve just been training with the lads and getting a feel for the place, waiting for the paperwork and everything to get sorted, and now that’s all done.

“It’s been good. The facilities are great here, the lads are great, and everyone’s really taken me in, so it’s been good so far. It’s a big club, and I’m just ready to get started.”

Opoku spent last season gaining valuable experience at Accrington Stanley in the third tier, having previously captained the Craven Cottage outfit’s Premier League 2 side. According to the man himself, Opoku’s style of play is a perfect match with manager Ryan Lowe’s preferred system.

He said: “It’s a big club, loads of history, and the style of play – playing out of the back, not really just a long-ball team.

“I would say I’m a ball-playing centre-back, which is why I can always fill in at left-back. I’m strong, and quite quick. I like to get on the ball and step out with it, dribble and take good chances with it.

“There’s some quality players and a good team. Now, it’s just about what I can bring to the team. I’m fast, I’m strong, I’m good on the ball. There’s a lot of things I believe I can bring to the team.

“I’m just grateful to be here, and thank you, really. I hope I can do the best I can.” he concluded.

The defender's loan deal is subject to EFL approval.
