Jose Mourinho Admits Feeling Guilty Over Lack of Chances for Man Utd's Forgotten Stars

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has shown a softer side than most are used to seeing after admitting he feels a little guilty for not being able to give certain players like Memphis Depay and Ashley Young enough game time to prove themselves.

"I still have some bad feelings towards myself because I didn't give a real chance to everyone, there are some positions in our squad where we have overbooked," Sky Sports.

"To be honest, people like Ashley Young and Memphis Depay, I didn't really give them a run of matches to play, to prove. So I have this little bad feeling."

Young, a favourite of Louis van Gaal's as a stand-in full-back, and Memphis, 2015's marquee signing, have fallen to the bottom of the pecking order where attacking wide players are concerned.

Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard have all been used in areas on the right and left so far this season.

As such, Young has started just twice in the Premier League, including as a full-back, while Memphis has only been named in the starting XI once in all competitions, and that was in the EFL Cup against Northampton Town where he played less than an hour.

Young's future hasn't been the subject of mass speculation, but Memphis has been widely tipped to join Everton when the January transfer window opens after Christmas.

Mourinho recently explained that he wouldn't stand in the way of any players who wish to leave to pursue better opportunities, and that may also include Morgan Schneiderlin. The Frenchman is another who hasn't started any Premier League games this season and is also a reported target for Everton.
